The Backyard Bantams
Songster
Hi!
So I just recently got some chickens a few months ago. I have four little bantam crossbreeds (one we have to rehome as he is a cockerel.) they are 27 weeks old about now and yesterday we just got our first egg!!! Since they were eight weeks old I spent hours in the coop every day playing with them. I would say that they are friendly, they are always happy to eat out of my hand and occasionally let me pat them. They don’t really like to be lifted up for long. Ebony, the only one that is laying is the only exception, she likes to be cuddled but hates being patted and is much more shy. Soon, in the spring time I’m gonna get 6 to 8 more little bantam chicks. I want them as chicks because 1, chicks are adorable and I want to have photo shoots of them wearing patty pans as tutus, 2, they’ll be more used to me, 3, I can train them to use the swing because sadly my older chickens rarely do (and come on a chicken swinging is just so cute, just what I need in my life), 4, I want to train them to be super friendly and to sit on my lap .
Some of the breeds I plan on getting our silkies, they are just so fluffy and adorable. I’ve heard they make good lap chickens if they are well trained. Has/does anyone have a lap chicken or know how to train one apart from spending lots of time with them? (I am willing to spend a lot of time with, them they are adorable!)
