Cracked a brown egg this morning and it had this dark mass in it, any ideas? The egg was layed three days ago and had a very dark swirl on the end. The mass was soft but firm.

I hope it is a once in a lifetime experiance!

Never seen one like that before.
Do you know which hen and how old she is?
Could be a fluke, but I'd keep and eye on her if you can.

Bet you'll be breaking eggs into a 'test bowl' for a while huh?

I came across the same thing. There was a normal yolk and white and then this with a bloody white around it. Curious what this could be?

It looks like a really large meat spot, that is from some tissue, usually from the oviduct or ovary, getting in the egg. Sometimes a blood vessel ruptures and results in blood in the egg, sometimes a bit of tissue, or both. I too, would cut it open and see what the inside looks like. It may just be a glitch, in which case you (hopefully) won't see a repeat. If it persists then it may be an indication of a reproductive issue in the making. Many of us have become very used to cracking our eggs into a separate bowl rather than directly into a recipe due to these occasional 'surprises' that tend to have a high 'yuck' factor. Most of the time, as unappealing as they are, they are not harmful. Commercial eggs are candled before sale and those that are identified with anything inside are disposed of before sale (usually).

My first impression was that it was a grape! :lau
Seriously. Looks like a meat spot or clot with some yolk, so hopefully just a glitch. Sometimes tissue or large clots will also end up with a shell, their body just treats it like an egg. Do you happen to know which bird laid it, and their age?
I've attached a link below with some weird eggs and explanations. There used to be a site that had a picture of one very much like yours, but it seems to no longer exist sadly, so this one is the next best I could find:

If everyone is acting fine, I would just monitor to see if it happens again, and if so, try to identify which bird.
