Large rooster, small hens

We have chickens of different breeds and sizes in the same coup. Recently our rooster mated with one of the smaller hens and when he got off her she fell over dead within seconds. We have moved the smaller chickens into a different area where there is no rooster. Can the rooster be too large for the hens?

yes..roos can also have too large of spurs and cause issues...or just be to aggresive

Thank you, He is a Brahma and I have noticed he seems a bit aggressive with the Brahma hens as well.
