Lash egg stuck on cloaca - how to help (yuck photo)

Hiya,

One of my girls (ex-battery farm breed) has a huge lash egg stuck hanging out of her butt, & a small part of her cloaca (maybe?) was being pulled out of her vent by the weight. Plus she's releasing a lot of mucous (vent gleet maybe? Or maybe just natural stuff to help move things through?)

I've chopped most of it off, and her inside bits have gone back inside thankfully, but I'm not sure what to do to help safely release the last bit of the lash from her cloaca?

I'm assuming a sitz bath tomorrow may help? (It's winter here, so I don't want to do it overnight) & maybe light massage to try & break it up once it's all warm and soaked? Anyone have any other ideas?

Give some calcium citrate with vitamin d tablet orally, or other calcium or Tums if available. I would soak her as soon as possible, and keep the area moistened with oil or petroleum jelly. It may need to be removed a little at a time. Lash eggs are the product of salpingitis, inflammation of the oviduct, common in laying hens.

Was she able to expel all that material?

What does her vent look like now, is it normal or prolapsed?
