We have one ~ 6 week old silkie chick still in the house (our house) with a much larger companion regular chick. I'm wondering when and how we should transition them to a pen outside (with a grown silkie hen and rooster). It's getting cold here (day and night). Temp this morning is ~45, supposed to rise to 61 later. Nights are running in mid- high 30's. bit we've got a couple of really cold nights predicted (teens). I'm afraid the two grown silkies won't accept them and help keep them warm, and I'm afraid the little silkie is just too little to go out in these cold temps.

Where are you from? If a northern state, consider keeping them in warm quarters. If ,like me-TN, I'd put them outside during the day when temps are warmer and then back inside for the night. I have late babies too-some hatching today-and I plan on keeping them indoors til spring. Of course that's easy for me as the chickens are tiny serama that don't get much over 10 ounces (dove size).

The picture is of a mature serama roo with a favorelle roo.

We are in SW Missouri. I like the idea of putting them out during warmer day temps. Screened in porch (shaded) or in a sunnier spot?

We also have 10 baby guineas (about 3 weeks old) that are in our shop building with mama. They have a kid's swimming pool with a heat lamp/food/water, and they hop in an out with mom. As they are still so teeny, I think it would be best to just leave them where they are until they get bigger. ??
