Lukka is sitting on four eggs that were on Day 21 yesterday. I got a peek at them the day before and two were pipped. I can't see any babies so I am worried. She is a first time Mom. I know the hatch date is correct because they were in the incubator the first ten days. Have you had a broody hatch late? Is is possible they are under her and just not chirping? Have you ever donned welders gloves and picked one up to look under it? Should I just leave her alone? ( my guess is this is correct)

If you really want to appease your curiosity pick her up SLOWLY and I imagine you will see babies falling out from under her.

What about the welding gloves? I have that papery, old lady skin on my arms.

LOL, use them if you need them. None of mine peck hard enough for me to bother. Gardening gloves would probably work too. If you go check you must give an update.

I have a broody that is on day 20 today. I might just don the gloves as well and go check to see if there are any baby chicks there yet. I have another hen that went broody yesterday. She is sitting on about 14 eggs, although I only expect 12 or 13 to hatch out of that one.

PLEASE UPDATE IF YOU TAKE A PEEK!

I have 5 broody turkeys (well, 3 have already hatched their poults) and 4 broody chickens right now.

I SAW THREE CHICKS! My broody hen has hatched out three chicks as of right now. We took out one DEAD chick.. hatched, unabsorbed yolk. It was an unfortunate accident, but I'm oh so happy with my three other chicks.

On a positive note, they look a whole lot like the chicks the Aloha ladies are in want/need of. I have high hopes that they'll be able to hatch some of their own.

I just went down and lifted Lukka up with a stick. I am not putting my hand in there. She did damage to the stick! I saw one little fat, fluffy yellow chick and one unhatched egg. I tried to roll the egg out where I could grab it but she kept pulling it back under her. today is Day 24 so maybe DH will help move her so we can see what is going on. But the yellow chick, OH my Goodness, so cute! So I don't know if the other two eggs hatched or what is going on with them. I am so happy she has a t least one baby.

Well hubby and I went down and he lifted Lukka off the nest. She was very unhappy. In the nest were two beautiful little yellow chicks, one egg zipping and one egg not pipped. In addition to this there was a giant broody poop smeared all over. We quickly placed fresh bedding down replaced the chicks and eggs and Lukka went back to sitting. The chick that was zipping was chirping like crazy but I am kind of concerned about it. It has one of those really wide pips, more like a big hole that I find rarely lead a successful hatch I couldn't hear if the other egg was chirping because the other one was making so much noise. Hopefully tomorrow we'll have four new babies in total and I can get that nest box cleaned up or replaced!
