I have 26, 1-wk old cornish crosses. A june bug got into their brooding box tonight. Oh my golly, the pandemonium! We laughed until our sides hurt. One bird would catch it in its beak and run to the other end of the box like a running back headed for the end zone.

Once there, the others tried to pluck it away. Birds jumping on each other, tackling each other, running across the tops of each other. The tug of war with the bug, stealing it from one to another. i am still laughing an hour later!

Finally the bug got torn into multiple pieces and there was a bit of protien for all to share. Then they all laid down and went to sleep.

CHICKEN FOOTBALL! I didn't know if had a name, but that is exactly what it is! BYC needs a chicken football emoticon.

Yeah, I'll watch them for hours.
My chicks were two days old and just figuring out how to use their legs. About 10 of them were sleeping under the heat lamp.
I watched as an another started running from the edge of the brooder towards the heat lamp.

As he got to the edge of sleepers it looked like he did not know how to stop so he tried to jump

Chicken football is why I love to weed our veggie garden...

Ever see a chicken fight over a slug or a grub?! THAT'S vindiaction right there! (Slugs attacking lettuce crop right now....grrr.....MY GREENS! And grubs are underneath the bushes where I'm pulling out grass to put down mulch.)

Ever watch a chick watch an ant walk through their yard (or so the ant thought!).....Priceless! The first ant is dangerous and terrifies the chicks until someone gets brave, pecks it, devours it and looks for more! The second ant is truly a tasty treat. The third ant doesn't even have a chance to make it past the fencing! Yes, our FR chicks are now 'on patrol' for bugs at the edges of the fence! Can't wait for more of those tasty morsels!

Last year I had 50 cx that were around 2 lbs that somehow caught a small mouse and played chicken football with it until one of them eventually dropped it too close to the wire and it snuck out. It was hilarious!!!!
