It varies. Usually not until they are getting ready to lay, which is generally after 20 weeks. But it can happen earlier. I don't think there's any need to worry at this point.

In my experience of birds with crests, male crests don’t come in as nicely rounded as yours have. I don’t know how pea comb affects that. I only have a few that have had pea combs or pea/single comb. But I can think of at least one of my pea comb pullets that has a crest like yours do. So I too think yours are pullets.

I'd put my money on both being pullets. A male araucana comb gets quite pinkish red and is more prominent at this age.. really appreciate your journey helps us all gain knowledge and please, please let us know the eventual out come...
