Hey all! Hope this is the right place to post. I purchased a flock of Lavender Orpingtons a couple months ago. 6 hens and 2 roos. I also have a trio I already had that I keep separate. I hatched about 20 chicks yesterday, a few from the trio, but mostly from the larger flock. Two chicks hatched almost completely yellow, with a lavender spot on their heads and back. Several others have quite a bit of yellow, on their bellies and wings mostly. I'm a bit concerned because chicks from my original trio are almost entirely lavender/grey, with just a bit of yellow under their chins. I'm hoping to figure out where all this yellow is coming from! Anyone have any insight?

First two pictures are the same chick, almost completely yellow.

This chick is yellow except for the spot on it's back and head.

And this is what most of the others look like. Yellow bellies and wings and some have yellow on their faces.

And a few are darker, like this one.

Chances are that your Lavenders are hiding Wheaten or eb. let them grow and see how they look, they may turn Isabel instead

Interesting. To be honest I've never even heard of Isabel until now! Does Isabel breed true? Guess it's time to do some more research! I'm pretty bummed though. I spent a long time looking for and a lot of money on my Lavenders :hmm

They do.

Lavender is basically a Solid Black bird that has been diluted by the recessive lavender gene. Many times people cross their black with other patterns and get solid black birds, in this case, it seems that Lavenders were crossed with Isabels and got solid lavenders but when crossed together the other patterns will show up.
