I hatched out this baby today from a pen of White, Black, Blue, and Splash Silkies with some carrying the Lavender gene. I've heard that the Lavenders can hatch out looking a bit like Partridge. As far as I know, there is NO Partridge in my Silkies. What do you think?

She's a little cutie...it's too early to tell. You'll have to wait and see.
I have one like this and it's a blue today, at 6 weeks. I suspect also, it may be lavender but we'll have to wait and see....
She hatched like this, she's on the left.

Thanks, its very interesting. oldtimegator, didn't somebody who bought eggs off of you hatch out a couple that looked like this one? Genetics is such a confusing subject, but interesting.....too bad I just...don't....get...it! I was selling all of these chicks locally, but I think I'll hang onto this one and see what happens.

Brenda, what a color difference in your chick! It almost had a brownish, neutral color going on as a chick, now it does look Blue/Lavender. Very pretty!

Yes, there have been 2 or 3 hatched like this from my BBS/split lav pen. I have 11 eggs due Saturday...I'm hoping I hatch at least one lavender! When you have splits in with others it's a numbers game.

I just got a new black split/lav 7 mo pullet and a splash split/lav cockerel 5 mo from Shagbarksilkies yesterday. I have lavender eggs coming from her too

Thanks! and yours may feather out like this also. We'll have to compare notes. I have her banded to keep track of her from the other blues and lavenders.
These are Bobbi Porto chicks and she came of of a Bl/bl/spl pen with lavender splits.

When the babies start to get their wing feathers in, you'll be able to tell the color. From my experience, those that have the brwon chipmunk color have gone on to be very light blues. The one's in my flock have been carrying & passing on the Lav gene to offspring. When breeding two of these together I have had Lavenders pop out, as well as the B/B/S, since they are also carrying Blue. However in "my line" I have also gotten Porcelain. Not saying that this bird does or will, but just that in my stock it happens. Brenda saw the results of my "Project Breedings" at the last show.

April's birds are just gorgeous! I snapped a few pic's at the Susquehanna show. It was my 1st show and i think i got it.

This pic was at 1 day old, and 2 were still in the incubator. They are just too darn cute!
