I have Blue, Black and am getting Lavender and Splash Silkies eventually.

When I separate them should it be:
Blue, Black, Splash in one pen... Will i still get spash?
Lavender in another
Or
Black & Splash in one pen... Will I still get splash... or just black. Should the Rooster be black or splash?
Blue & Lavender in another... Will this help the Lavender breed truer? Should the Rooster be blue or Lavender?

I also have one white silkie, which pen should that one go into?
Can Partridge be put with anything?

Is there a good book or website that teaches you about which silkies are showing quality vs pet quality and which you want to keep for breeding??

Is there a good book about silkie care?

I'm interest in finding any prevention plans for Silkies for mites, lice, etc... Do you worm your silkies or give them anything to prevent mites, lice, etc? How often do you treat your silkies? Right now I put DE in the bedding for my cochins to help prevent mites and such. I've also heard putting motor oil on the perchs... but I'd think that would make the birds...well... smell like motor oil?? Any links and expericence would be appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

.... also... how do you load pics?? and I'll put some on of my silkies

Bacres,

Which Response Best Answered You Questions... I Looked At Your Thread... But 36 Pgs Is A Bit Much!

Sonoran Silkies

#1.) Thank you for answering my question.

#2.) So basically your answer to my question is: Keep all colors separate if wanting to breed true to the parents color? And blue can be crossed with splash and produce both. Lavenders should be kept separate... but if bred to another the offspring will carry 1/2 lav gene and if bred to another carrying 1/2 lav gene (or back to 100% lav father)... offspring can be lavs?

#3.) Do you have a website?

Thanks so much,
Kacee

I have heard that you should keep Black by itself because blue and black when bred together cause some issues with light blacks and dark blues. White and Partridge should be kept seperate. Lavender can be kept with Black because it is a recessive color so you will get Blacks, Splits, and Lavender.
