Lay down for hatching?

I have a homemade incubator with a homemade turner. Holds eggs small end down. Is it easier for the chicks to get out laying sideways? I made a tray that sets over the turner (it turns off) to do this if it is best. I assume I would do this on day 17 or 18.

They can lay either way. it is best on their sides, but some people don't have room in their bators for this but the chicks hatch anyhow.
