I was at the feedstore just now, picking up some layena for my 4 1/2 month old RIRs. I didn't know they made a pellet and a crumble form. What do you guys feed? And why? I asked the guy there and he recommended pellets, since they wasted less with those. But now that I got home and put some in the hens' feeder, the pellets look awfully big..

Thanks in advance for your input.

I plan to switch to pellets as soon as mine are ready for layer feed. Many people have told me there is much less waste. I too thought pellets looked awful big, until my 4 month old chickens started stealing the goat's feed pellets. If they can manage his, they can manage their own and the goat will be relieved.

I feed mine crumbles, depends on the chickens I guess, lol. I switched because they didn't like them & they gobble up the crumbles.I do have bantams & it's easier for them to eat crumbles. Now I have ducks & the chickens "flock" to the Flock Raiser pellets

I feed on the ground. So I like the pellets. Its easy for them to see and the wild birds don't come around. Now the chicks get crumbles of course.
