I'm getting a couple of 4 month old chickens soon and from what I understand, this specific breed won't start laying until 8 months or so. Should I give them grower or layer feed? Most of the bags of grower feed says to only feed them it until they're 16 weeks or so. Would the extra calcium in the layer feed be too much for them?

Do you have other chickens? If these are your only birds, why not just keep them on the grower, and supplement them with Calcium when they start laying. A lot of people keep their flocks on grower or a similar product, so they don't have to provide different feeds to different age groups within their flocks. The layers will eat the extra calcium they need if it is provided.

Good idea. Thanks. What's the best way to give the layers extra calcium without the pullets eating it as well?
