Well, so far I have one hen 17 wks and 12, 10 wks pullets and I am not totaly sure if my 17 wk hen...is a hen they are eating chick starter right now, and I dont know if its ok to start giving layer feed right now for one chicken. Should I just wait till the chicks get older and then start giving layer feed, cause i dont want to get layer feed and give it to the one hen/roo and figure out its a roo I dont know what I should do give layer feed now or just chick starter then layer feed when the rest of the chicks get older.

I would wait...set out the oyster shell when they/she start laying and give free choice yogurt now. If all goes well noone but the layer should be interested in the oystershell (only offer it in an apart bowl freechoice)... if on the offchance the non layers start pigging out on it (very unlikely but it can happen) then remove it (the oystershell) until all are laying... you need not worry about the yogurt.

Once my chickens are in the big fenced in area and off starter, they all get the same mix. That has lay pellets in it. If the roos want lay pellets they can have them. This mix has not hurt them yet. Any bird can eat anything they want.
