Layer Pellets

My friend is new to chickens... she has six 2-month-old pullets. She says that they're feeding them layer pellets mixed with chick feed. I told them that this is BAD. I told them that they should be feeding them grower (like me.) They said that no, grower is for MEAT BIRDS. We use the same feed store. I checked the bags:

Starter- 0-8 weeks
Grower- 8-20 weeks
Layer- 20+ weeks

I was right about what to feed. Is it true, though, that the calcuim is BAD for chicks as young as that? People have told me that before, just wanted to verify. Thanks.

Grower is correct. Meat birds get MEAT STARTER and MEAT GROWER.

Thanks... I think that the confusion came about because out feed store (Agway) doesn't have meat bird feed.

This stuff is printed right on the back of most retail feed bags and/or on the feed companies website. Take you friend to the website. But, good luck with changing their minds.
