I have 3 hens and I have 1 hen with 10 chicks that are 1 month old. They are separated with the chicks mostly only having access to starter. i want to put all the chickens together when I do this the chicks will have full access to the layer feed. At what age will this be ok for the chicks?
Thanks

The young chicks can go on layer when they themselves start laying. It can hurt the young chicks if they go on layer to soon, it has lower protein, more calcium, and sometimes hormones.

You can put out the starter for the chicks and layer for the hens. The hens may eat some starter and the chicks won't be big enough to physically eat laying pellets for a while. They'll be okay. They tend to know what they need and eat it appropriately.
