Hi everyone!

Hubby went to the store and this is what he came back with...so...just to verify:

Layer crumble available all times(just switched from starter/grower)
then:
Grit in another dish off to the side of the feed trough also available all times

Being as they now have the grit readily available...we can start giving them grass, etc without having problems right?

Thanks!!

Jen

I'm assuming your chickens are either 20 weeks old and/or have started laying so you've switched to layer feed. Yes, they can have other food as long as they have grit available to digest it. Chickens of laying age should also have crushed oyster shell available free-choice to help in the formation of strong egg shells.
My chickens haven't tried eating the grass. They like, in no particular order, yogurt, millet seed, watermelon, cantaloupe, hard boiled eggs, etc etc (provided by mommy) and what they find most often on their own: bugs, weed seeds, rose leaves, and just about anything else that will hold still long enough for them to peck at it.

"Other Jen," you are welcome to check out my very basic article about feeding laying hens ~
