All the animals on my little farm began runny noses and coughing at the first sign of weather changing, now hens are still "gurgling" and musuc is clear!!
I have been giving my chicken (layers) and my turkey poult Duramycin for what appears to be a cold, then I read online the hens laying cannot have it. Is this a REALLY big issue?? We have eaten the eggs, unknowingly and I am afraid to admit so has another family. What should I do, besides not eat anymore? I need to change to Tylan, the Duramycin 10 is not working anyway, will that affect the eggs? I am fairly new at chickens and REALLY new at turkeys (first timer)!!

You shouldnt eat the eggs after using duramycin due to residue in the eggs. It's possible someone could have an allergic reaction to the antibiotic, at the very least built up antibiotic immunity in the future. Duramycin has a 21 day withdrawal period after last use.
Tylan 50 injectable can be found in the cattle section at your feed store. You'll need a syringe with needle to withdraw it from the bottle. You can give it orally if you dont want to inject. Dosage is 1/2cc for standard size birds, 1/4cc for smaller birds. Administer orally by pulling the wattles down and the mouth will open. As soon as you squirt it in, release the wattles so the bird can swallow it on her own. Dosage is once a day for 5 days, max 7 days if it hasnt cleared up by the 5th day. If you're injecting, it's into the breast muscle just under the skin, once a day for 3 days. Inject into the opposite breast the next day, then back to the other breast the third day and not in the same spot. There isnt any withdrawal period with the injectable.
