I was just wondering when to move chickens onto layer's food? Does the weather make a difference to egg-laying?

18 weeks is about the time to move a chicken to layer feed. That way when they start laying they won't have any of the medicated baby chick feed in their system and you can eat the eggs right away. Weather does make a big difference with most chickens when it comes to laying. Laying slows down in cold weather, but it might have more to do with having less light. Some folks add lights to their coops during the winter months to keep egg production up. Others let their hens take a break.
