My hen, Lady, went broody and we bought her some fertile eggs to hatch. How long after hatching will it be before she starts laying again? She is no longer with her chicks and we just wonder when we can expect eggs from her again?

Thanks.

If she hatched the chicks is she raising them? They raise their peeps to somewhere about 2 mos of age give or take a week or two. Then they start acting like hens again and lay in about month. If she stays broody you can forget getting eggs until she is not broody. I had two hens last year that hatched/raised peeps from Jan - Nov. This season they are both laying and not acting broody yet.

She got to raise her chicks for a few weeks but we have a small lot and not enough room for more than 2 coops. So, when Lady started pecking the other babies we had to move her into the big girl coop and keep her babies in with the other little ones. All of the little ones get along very well but Lady didn't want more than her 2 to take care of. We tried adding the new little ones under her at night but in the morning we watched her start chasing the littles, not chasing them away from her, but chasing them and pecking them when they were on the other side of the coop. It just took about 1/2 a day for her peeps to stop crying and another day before Lady keep looking for them. I am not certain if she is laying yet, but we got a huge egg today and I don't know who would have laid it and wondered if it was Lady's or someone did it!
