Hi I have got two guinea fowl (still young) and have had them since about March.
I got them when they were about 6 wks old.
I have a pair as the sounds are different.
The colour is what some one told me as Lavender. One is more pied Lavender. The feathers look really lacy.
My question is? How old before they lay and what colour are the eggs. Are they much smaller than an average / medium hen egg?
Oh well..It was more like a couple of questions.
The Keets turned up on my neighbours back door. She is a total vegan and asked me if I wanted them.

Guinea are seasonal layers. May-October on average. The eggs are like a cream white medium sized chicken egg but are more pointed than rounded. If they are already 6 weeks they will be old enough to lay buy the time season comes around. Their fertility is iffy the first year with new layers but will even out.

I'm sorry. I read that wrong. They are more like 20 weeks? Which is of age to lay now.

. I have found a random clutch hidden in bushes out of season. But knowing guinea, it was there a while. They are notorious for hiding eggs.

Where do you live? If you live in Australia or somewhere else it the Southern Hemisphere guineas lay about October to March. In which case your guineas will start laying in October.

But if you live in America or in the northern hemisphere they should be laying soon. Maybe in the next month or so and if not you might have to wait till next season.

If you live in America your keets are a mystery cos they somehow hatched it the middle of winter:idunno
