I am fairly new to chickens and my 5/6 month old white and red rocks are new to laying (I have 8 total).

I've had them in a chicken tractor for about 2 months, a week and half ago I started letting them out to free range and they did great! Ate bugs, explored, went home mid afternoonish. 3 days ago I FINALLY got my first egg! 3 in fact! All in a single nesting box. Day 2 only 1 egg in the same nesting box. Day 3 (today), there where two eggs both look like they were dropped from above which I can only explain they were laid from the roosting bar. Can they do that? I have 5 nesting boxes in the coop and they only use 2 of them.

I've done a little reading in the forums and I think I'll try a few golf balls in the unoccupied nesting boxes. Anyone have any advice? or other suggestions?

Thanks so much!

thats normal

new POLS need to learn to control

till then they will pop out eggs where ever they feel the urge and roosts are common place for that

they just pop out as if the pol didnt even know it was comming

golf balls in a nest box will encourage them to lay in the box

and alow access to teh box at all times
