What breed of hen is a good egg layer?

Do you prefer... or better yet, WHAT color egg do you prefer, if you have a preference? That will narrow potential breeds down some. You can get even more in depth if you want real dark brown, or light brown for instance.

I have Silkies. They have a small egg every other day. Very tasty too, but they are free range.
I’ll be getting Buff Orpingtons next. Not prolific again, but they are very sweet natured.
Look for information on Australorps! I’ve heard they’re excellent.
What is your weather like? You will need hardy birds if you get extreme cold.
Do your homework on coop size too.
