I was wondering if I were to use wood shavings on my coop floor (At the moment it is dirt) would my hens start laying in places besides the nesting boxes, you know the ground? Or if I kept straw in the nesting boxes would they still lay there???

I am still new myself (counting down to my first egg) but I know that shavings is one of the most common types of bedding for the floor of a coop. It's what I use. I don't think it'll make them lay in other places. Hens choose to lay in a quite, small, dark place, which is why we provide nesting boxes. It has less to do with the material in there and more to do with being a private place. You should be fine with shavings on the floor.

Okee Dokee. Thanks guys
