Laying soon??? Opinions?

I hope they will begin laying soon. Tips on how to tell? Temperament of breeds?

Orpingtons can lay at 6 months, but more likely 7 or more. The bigger body the chicken the longer they take to lay. My LO lay small eggs too. If you want hens to lay at 18 weeks get leghorns they have a light weight body and lay early.
 
Sapphire gem, legbar mix (Easter egged), possibly golden Sussex mix (Easter egger)...
I had two sapphire gems, they started at 18 weeks to the day... but you should see their combs redden up and the squatting, at least in those types of birds. My mediterranean birds never squatted FWIW... and sometimes they sing the egg song days before their first egg. I have some young ones now who are singing along with the older girl, just not yet producing...
