She has layed 14 eggs without stopping! She started laying 14 days ago and hasn't skipped yet. Granted the first 7 were small but she has pretty much caught up now. I love my RIRs

I've got a couple too, and they have been laying real well also!

My rose comb RIR is one of the few that has laid all winter. Her eggs aren't that big, but they're really pretty--almost pink (because of the calcium)

I have 2 RIR's...only one is laying now, but the other is frequently singing her egg song, so it's only a matter of time before the she starts to lay. Out of all my girls they were the last to start laying.

I have heard this about RIRs....do they even stop laying in the really cold weather?

RIRs are GREAT! I brought my 4 baby chicks home August 2, 2009 and they started laying in Mid-December and have been laying all winter. I am averaging 3 eggs a day and recently I've had two days collecting 4 eggs! AND, one of them (not sure which one) is laying double yolkers at least 3x a week. I just love my laying machines!

I don't hear alot of positive things about RIR for some reason. Mine are great. NO muss no fuss just lay and go. They only take like 10min in the nest and on to other things. My EE like to lounge. Sometimes I think they might be reading the paper.

RIR are for sure my favorite laying breed - and, I kinda fancy their classic look

My 5 RIR hens never let me down... been getting 3-4 eggs a day "all winter"
