I have 2 female blue Swedish and 2 female pekin hybrid ducks. This past week or two, one of the swedes is laboring away and laying a soft shell egg around 5 or 5:30 pm about 4 times now in those past 2 weeks. Is she ok? Why is she doing this? None of the other 3 are doing it. Oh, she’s about 7 month old. She’s been laying for about 1 1/2 months. Of course, I don’t know who’s laying when except the pekin eggs are larger. they usually do it in their house before I get them out each morning.

Does she have free access to calcium? (Egg shells or oyster shells?)

she’s still pretty new, so it could just be her working out the kinks. I wouldn’t worry too much!

What are you feeding them?

Soft-shelled eggs can happen frequently with new layers, but if it keeps continuing It may be good to start her on a calcium supplement for a few days, like Tums, or calcium citrate, or gluconate.

Yes she has access to oyster shell anytime all day.

Yes, she has access to oyster shell all day every day. I am going to chalk it up to being young and a newcegg layer for now but I’ll definitely keep my eye on her. If she does not improve, I’ll try the suggestions given. Thanks guys!
