Lazy Hen?

I have a hen that just started laying two days ago. Now that she is laying she seems to be very lethargic. She will get up occasionally to eat and drink but then goes back to roost and sleep. Is this normal for hens when they first start laying?

Not that I've seen, but then they are such individuals. Is it very hot where you live? Maybe she is just dealing with the heat. I hope it turns out OK for you.

I live in ga and right now we are having between 80 and 85 degree days. My wife just called me and said that she has laid another egg, got up an ate, and then went right back to the roost. Her comb is a pale color not bright red. What would this mean?

start feeding her raw eggs!! Pale comb isn't good. Shes lacking calcium. Raw eggs and eggshells will fix that. My hen did this when she hatched chicks. Give her plenty of calcium (fresh eggshells works just fine. She may be dehydrated also. Give her plenty water and calcium.
