Hi, I'm fairly new to the chicken world, 2nd year, first chickens I bought were banhams, they started laying normal time...In March of this year I bought Rhode Island Red Pullets they are right at 29 weeks old now, and still haven't started laying yet...At the same time, I bought Brahmus, they also haven't started laying...Am I doing something Wrong? I feed them laying pellets, scatch feed, and I let them free range some...Any suggestions?? I would really like to get some eggs before winter starts..

. Where are you located? This year's heat has delayed many people's birds laying

Hi from the uk :) I had one chicken who took ages to lay all I can say is as long as they are healthy and eating right they should lay u just need patience. Are there combs up and red?

Welcome to BYC.

If you purchased heritage, true bred birds, it wouldn't be unusual for them not to lay until 30 weeks. If you bought birds from a hatchery or feed store, they should be in lay. Be sure not to allow free ranging until late in the afternoon. Most birds do their laying before 3 pm. This will assure there is no secret laying out in the hinter lands.

The days are getting shorter. Some pre-dawn supplemental lighting may be in order. Have the light come at 5 am and snap off at 8 am. This light therapy usually gets them going. If you are opposed to using supplemental lighting, which is understandable, then you'll just have to wait patiently.
