I got my 7 straight run mixed breed chicks from a breeder 2 weeks ago. We are first timers. There is a particular calm chick who has always been mellower than the others, she walks slower, doesn't fight or fuss over treats and sits really still in your hands. Lately I noticed she hasn't been interested in food or water. Just walks over to it then away. She doesn't really scratch either. All my chicks are in the ugly feather stage, but she keeps hers kind of ruffled. No pastey butt.

We just lost one last night that was acting the same way. I finger feed her (started soaked in sugar water), dripped apple cider vinegar water on her beak and she just kept going down hill each day. So sad for us as they are pets....some you just cannot get to thrive I guess.

This happened to one of our chicks too. Turns out she was stressed out because the other chicks were picking on her. You may not see it, but when you're away they may be hurting her.

I would separate her either way. If she has a disease, you don't want it to spread to the other chicks. I separated mine and she improved immediately.

P.S. Do you have any Sav-a-Chick? I hear that stuff works well when a chick is under the weather. I've given it to my chicks before but not sure if it actually had any effect.
