my husband and I are new to raising chickens - a friend of my husbands gave him 2 reds we call marsala and dumpling to see if he liked it- after about a year of successful eggs retrieval he got 2 little americauna chicks- his true wish is to get blue eggs- so we have been doing okay until 2 days ago the little ones pot and pie seems big enough to join the big ones in the main coop so the barrier came down and the following morning we had a prison scene -pot had most of his back feathers removed and skin broken we cleaned him and pie kept flies away but unfortunately we woke this tuesday morning to a dead pot. so my issue is we hope to return the reds after the little ones got to egg laying age and now i am one chicken short or a pair so i am looking anyone who would sell americaunas about 3 months old- thanks julie

How old are the reds? How old were the americanas? Chicks and adult sized birds cannot be introduced together. Chickens need to sort out the pecking order and see where everybody stands in the flock. Since chicks are so small, and cannot defend themselves against large full grown birds, sorting out the pecking order often times results in dead or injured chicks.

Please read the following BYC article for information on adding chickens to your flock:
