I have quite the dilemma. 4 week old chicks have moved outside into transitional baby coop and run until their permanent home can be built. We have been home from work in the mornings so we have been able to open their pop door after sunrise. My problem now is that we will be back at work tomorrow and we leave for work well before sunrise, usually around 0330. I have the Pullet Shut door coming Wednesday for the big coop. I was going to put it on the temporary coop until the big coop is finished, but until then what should I do? Open the pop door early in the AM? The temporary coop has been predator-proofed with hardware cloth apron, keyed hasps on all points of entry. I am just worried about my babies having their door open so early!!

I always leave the pop door open. I used to close it at night too, but it just became a huge hassle, and often the chicks were stuck inside the coop for way too long. I just leave the door open now. It has been 4 years and there has never been an issue. As long as your coop is predator proof, your chicks should be fine.
