My 3 year old DS was trying to catch one of our 4 week old australorps and stepped on her accidently injuring her leg. She is hoping around, obviously in pain by her squacking, and so I separated her with 1 of her flock-mates to the coop for some down time.

I inspected the leg and feel no broken bones and her toes curl when I touch the bottom of her foot. She won't put any weight on it tho. Should I do anything other than separate her?

thanks for your reply. He feels awful! I had just gotten finished telling him to stop chasing the birds and stomped right on her. He's a good kid and LOVES the chickens. He's been banned from the run / coop for a few days so we can try to teach him some restraint... I feel bad that it happened in the first place. He was just being a kid.

I'm going to keep her separated, but what happens if she doesn't put any weight on it in a few days?
