I have a golden comet hen that is about 1 year old and she cannot walk on one leg.the leg is warm and has movement in the toes. I see no breaks and do not feel anything out of the ordinary. She just does not bear weight and hops around. I currently have her in a crate in the coop so she doesn't move around. Does anyone have any suggestions can I give her some type of medicine. How long do I keep her in the crate. She is eating laying eggs and pooping g normal

It could be a sprain, but I would check the whole leg for redness, swelling, and check the foot pad for swelling or a dark spot (bumblefoot.). Keep her in a cage for a week with food, water, and vitamins in the water. Reevaluate in a week, and she mzay need more time as it can take a month for a sprain or break to heal. Keeping her in the coop may keep her spot in the flock.

I hats being new to this hobby and run into problems. Well my girl with the sprained leg is doing okay but she still limps. When I get home from work I let her out with the other chickens but I am right there and then all of a sudden 4 hens and the rooster are pecking at her relentlessly then I break it up and try to settle her down for the night time and through the.day I have her in a animal crate in the coop so she is not running around on her sore leg. I guess my question is will the other chickens stop beating her up. I am at my wits end
