Hi all. My Daphne (runner) has had chronic leg weakness. First time the doc diagnosed botulism. Did a course of antibiotics, and she was fine. Happened again. Took her In and another doc said ankle strain. Kept her inside for a day or two, and she was fine. Happened again. She takes a couple steps, then falls over. Any ideas? I don't want to take her in again

Hi - do you already supplement her feed with niacin? If not, you may want to try it, as niacin deficiency can cause leg weakness. Best wishes for Daphne's speedy recovery!

I’d add nutritional yeast daily to her feed I just sprinkle on top. 1Tablespoon to 1 cup of feed. Hopefully if it’s a deficiency you’ll see improvement in less than a week. Or get liquid BComplex. TSC carries it and give her 1 ml over mealworms chopped tomatoes or something else she’ll gobble up.

Thanks! I just happen to be by the feed store. I'll get on it.

Could you post a video of the duck trying to walk?
Are there any apparent physical findings on the leg, such as swelling, warmness, discolorations, or lesions near the foot pad? If you bend the joints do you hear any clicking or abnormal sounds?
What is the bird being fed?

Sorry, I just saw your message. No, I haven't. We feed her purina duck food and the vitamin and electrolyte powder in her water. She's standing and walking, but with difficulty. She's struggling more than usual in the video because I'm there. We keep her in at night. I don't know if her gait is weird because it's weird, or if it's because it's so slow I notice that a duck walks funny

Hey, maybe she is bound up. She hasn't said in awhile. It doesn't resolve itself, does it? I mean it's been two weeks, and she's improving, slowly

It kind of makes sense. I mean the rest are eating the same did, and they're ok. It seems like her legs might be a little wide apart
