Okay so let's just begin .... I live in a semi rural town in South Wales . I live on rather a large plot of land with a long garden that stretches around 200 meters long and away from neighbours , bearring in mind I live in a semi detached house . Somebody in my street has complained about my rooster beeing noisy . Im 14 years old and have almost perfect hearing and I cant here a thing . We also never let him out before 8 in the morning and he does'nt make a sound while he's in the shed . I only have 7 of them all together in that coop I'm a small hobby breeder and Im attached to him I treat my chickens as pets not livestock . I also know that its not my next door neighbours that have coomplained as they are an elderly couple who love taking care of the chickens when we are away and admited that it wasn't them and are also very upset that he has to go . Ive ruled out multiple people on my street and this person has to be atleast 4 doors up . The council haven't done a sound check or anything but we could be facing 5,000 pound fine for taking hem to court .... WHA DO I DO?????????? Need advice ASAP to save Hurricane !!!!!x
Thanks in advance

Ive had roosters in my garden for around two years now with not one complaint and its not that we can't have roosters but apparently he's too noisy .
Do you have the right to have roosters there? If so then why would you be in trouble?

If you cannot have roosters there then try to get the law changed??

Quote: If you are allowed to have roosters then they can't tell you what to do right? You are keeping him in until 8 am (which is what I do by the way to keep the neighbors happy).

I don't understand why you would have to take him to court if you are within your rights to keep roosters.

I completely agree but they're counted as livestock and not pets so I think the law is kind of like if they're noisy or activating then we have to do something about it i.e get rid of him . But I will look it up thanks .

In the UK, there are noise abatement laws which cover livestock so although you may be allowed to keep a roo, if it is noisy, the council can force you to get rid of him. Sadly I had the same issue many years ago and had to re-home my two, admittedly rather noisy, Embden geese. The council do have to do noise level tests to establish whether there is a case to answer though.

Oh dear-- how horrible.

We've contacted the council and they're coming by later today to do a noise test and I will keep you informed on how or goes .

Sorry but the UK laws are just ridiculous! If the law is such that your location is allowed to have chickens and roosters but they must be quiet then this is ridiculous! Farm animals and livestock make sounds and it is all part of the natural world. We live out in the country and we often hear the neighboring horses and chickens if the wind is from the right direction. Birds are always singing the frogs create a loud symphony of noise at night time from our pond. I personally would not live anywhere that local authorities had control over the noise from nature.
