hey everyone i dont own pigeons at the moment but was curious about something, in this scenario if i were to let my pigeons out and a trapper gets one or person in general captures him and refused to return it even when you can prove it is yours(leg band) or something how would that work out ?

You could pay a ransom for your bird (which happens where racing pigeons are involved) you could steal it back. Or you could find yourself one pigeon short in your loft.

Most people would do the honourabe thing however and return the bird to you is my experience.

oh ok thank you i was just curious as stated i dont own any pigeons but i thought about it after i saw an add for a guy selling hundreds of pigeons hes trapped on craigslist and all i could think was" of those hundreds hes probably selling to hunters, falconers etc 1 of those has to be someones pet or racing pigeon"

Most sold pigeons like that actually caught or stolen pet pigeons. Legally free flying pigeons are protected under migratory bird act fed gov agencies say, and state and local officials need legal documents to shoot trap harass, but not upheld. Further its a federal crime to shoot a racing/any banded pigeon by law, as a president I'm not sure if was Roosevelt or other around that time that made, but apparently that's not upheld also. Most of these shooting shows where they toss pigeons at people to shoot, using banded pigeonsof all different shapes sizes and looks most pure breeds looking, n not normal feral greys, mutts or meat pigeons supposedly legally bred or purchased specifically for toss shoot.
