Hey all,

I'm having a problem with (2) 12 week old Leghorn chickens and (2) 12 week old Comet chickens. I have had them in separate coops but have now gotten some other smaller chicks and need the room so I put them together, Outside foraging they were fine, kept out of each others way (I was outside all day watching them...literally all day.) I put them in the much larger coop together and left for a quick dinner (maybe an hour?) and I come back to one comet sitting on the other in the furthest corner of the coop with the comet on top having apparently been pecked at for the whole hour, her vent is all bloody and looks swollen and she has almost no tail feathers left! I've not separated her from both sets of chicks for fear of her being pecked by the 3 week old chicks.

Having read tons of there forums I thought they would be alright together but now that I have a chicken bleeding rather profusely from her poor behind I am not sure :-/

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I strongly doubt its pecking order, they shouldn't be getting soars like that if it is.Is there any signs of sickness?Sometimes chickens will kill others if their sick.Don't take her out.I say this because once you put her back in,it will get worser.Fights will occur any moment.I'd stay out there with her.You can put her alone and wait untill she's a couple of months so she can defend better.Wait,I have it!How big is this coop,to chickens they may feel crunched up and go on full attack.Well.my banty hen is BIGGER then my production red in the pecking order.Well, 1 day my production red was defending her self, the banty had attacked her.Banty didn't like the fact she made her bleed, now she just beats the crap out of her whenever she can.Maybe your production red mest up too.
