Alan, you have to boil or slow cook the tongue and then peel it while it is still warm. They dont peel well raw or cold. Then they can be sliced and grilled or shredded. No matter how you want to serve it always pre-cook it to tenderize or it is really tough. Good luck let me know how it goes!​

Oh, yum!

There is a Mexican restaurant here in town that has tacos de lengua. They're not on the menu, but the staff is mostly Mexican, and they always have a batch in the back because it's what everyone misses from home. They'll serve them if you ask

Now I'm craving them.

I take the tongues I get and boil them up for my dogs.I am sure my DH would eat em but I dont think I could watch him lol. My grandparents were always making tongue and brains up to eat...I just cant handle it though.

I have been known to serve tongue to food-wimpy friends, and only identify it as "beef". I wait til they've eaten multiple servings and they've ranted about how delicious it is, then tell them it is tongue.
It has shocked a couple people into a willingness to try other "weird" foods

DH and I like Lengua, but the Mexican grocery store only had HUGE giant tongues that we couldn't possibly go through on our own. I understand the tongues are gonna be huge (cow are big!), but 5 lbs of tongue for two people???

Cabeza is yummy too. Luckily, we live in SoCal where Mexican food is pretty like second nature (well, at least for those of that grew up here). There is a little mexican restaurant near us that has DELICIOUS cabeza and lengua tacos (with lots of onions and cilantro!).

BUt, We are having a get together in about 6 weeks.....hmmm....you have me an idea!!! Thanks!!

I have been know to make Tacos, and they all Love them!

I have, heart, & live in my freezer right now ready to add to my Tamales and the family will never NO! Blend it well!
