Most people here know I have two little ducklings, a female pekin named Georgie and a little Mystery duckling of undetermined breed named leppy. Well Leppy started acting abit strange tonight. I noticed when I locked them up in their night pens, that Lep would walk for a little while, but then he would just lay down. When I went towards him he would get up and evade me, but after a minute would lay down again.

I went out again a bit ago to see if his energy had picked up any, but everyone was settled in and snoozing for the night. I reached in and he let me pet him for a few and then got up wandered to the front of the cage. He does not seem to be obviously sick or anything, no cough, no sneezing, no runny nose or eyes, and no obvious injuries or feather loss.

I also noticed the babies were not laying together. They used to always lay next to each other. Don't know if it's just their age, or if it could have anything to do with Leps weird behavior.

I may be over reacting, but I could just tell it was unusual. Could he just be tired, or am I right ot be worried....any ideas at all?

I was pretty convinced he was coming down with something a couple of days ago, as hekept laying down still. He seemed just a wee bit stuffy in the nose, but with no other symptoms I just watched him. Yesterday he seemed a bit more active and today he was leaping around acting like a nutty duckling. So I am hoping he shook whatever it was, but I am still watching him close.

Unfortunately I let all three ducks, my adult and the two babies out to free range yesterday, so now that's all they want to do. They have been conning me all day by standing right by the gate and cheep/quacking. lol I hate to let the little guy do that though until I am sure he's 100%

My adult is used to going out and roaming the big yard, but if I let him out alone, he just freaks out and stays right by the babies yard now. So now the only way everyone is happy is if everyone is out having free range to do what they please. lol Sigh....

Im glad he is doing better.. These critters can mess with us humans prettty bad.. LOL

They sure can! It's amazing how much I love them, and how worried I get at even the slightest change in behavior. I am a sucker for my ducks.
