I was bored and decided to make a thread so everyone could see how many boys vs girls I get in my current flock of 16 chicks. This can be for anyone willing to share.
I think his could possibly be helpful.
We have 16 chicks who are now 3 weeks old are starting to exhibit basic chicken behavior, scratching, fighting, and eating like there’s no tomorrow.
I’ve been seeing chicks for awhile and usually end up correct,I’ve managed to get lucky I’ve rthe years and always end up with more hens then roosters but this year I’m a bit on age.Lots of slow feathering chicks and a bunch of the chicks are growing combs and wattles and fighting extremely aggressively like most of our roosters in the last did as chicks.
I’ll try uploading pictures,if not I’ll get some this afternoon.
I have several different breeds, ones that I’ve never kept before.
4 Brahamas, light and buff I think 2 are boys and 2 are pulled based on behavior and feathering ,3 lavender Orpington who I think are all cockerels which sucks because their the sweetest and most tame AND I wanted a hen,2 Jersey giants who I believe might be both pullets based off how fast they feathered, but one in having doubts about,I think two out of three Easter Eggers are boys an maybe one girl,I 2 welsummers who I’m pretty for sure are both pullets,2 polish who I can’t even take a guess on, and I think that’s it.
Here is the light Brahma I suspect is male,3 weeks and barely has any feathers compared to the other Buff ,an dtheir bodies are shaped different, however the other one is more dominant and aggressive, but he looks like several cockerels I’ve owned at this age.
Here is falcon the Easter Egger that I suspect is a rooster, based off a couple of things, however it’s the most feathered too,so I’m thinking probably a aggressive pullet, maybe I just ended up with a few dominant chicks, here it is parting with with suspected cockerel.
Here is one of the Lavender Orpingtns. Will have to get more pictures of the others.
