So I finally bit the bullet and let my chickens out of jail over the weekend- Sequestered my two problem dogs - that left two other dogs to mingle with the peeps. Both are older dogs: one with only three legs, so not much of a threat, the other is a cow dog mix of Border collie and Australian Shepard. Too funny - the cow dog kept herding the chickens into their pen. Had to get on him a few times because I would turn around from what I was doing and he would have all 12 chickens back in their pen. Was nice at the end of the day when I needed to get everyone inside though
Was amazed at how gentle he was - he never had any herding training.
I had more fun watching them discover the outside world. I have one RI that is exceptionally friendly. I bent down to pet one chicken and the little booger flew up and tried to perch on my rear - hah!
