Summary: 13 week old Silkie chicken started being lethargic the last day or two. She's been sleeping by herself and mostly staying away from the rest of the flock. She hasn't been eating much. She is drinking water. I took her in last night (no food or water) and her crop was still squishy this morning. About the size of a golf ball. Is this sour crop? How to treat? Could worms be causing sour crop? Is it too soon to worm her?
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)--Silkie that is 13 weeks old. she feels skinnier(more boney) than everyone else.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.--She's not eating really, mostly sleeping and sitting by herself. Not moving too much but still walking around. I picked her up yesterday and she regurgitated while I was holding her.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?--Last couple days especially. She's always been a bit on the slow side compared to everyone else (Bottom of pecking order to) but not this much.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?--No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.--No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.--Nothing...?
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.--She's on medicated feed. Given grit in the run. She's been drinking but not eating a lot.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.--This mornings looked mostly normal. There was a bit of red/dark coral in one of the overnight poop. Cocci or normal?
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? --None, isolated last night and gave some yogurt.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? --I would like to treat myself if possible but whatever is necessary
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use--coop has pine shavings, covered run with dirt/soil.
