Hello there! I just joined this website few minutes ago to try to get help from professionals since I'm kind of new to raising chickens.
About the chick, the chick is roughly almost two and a half months old yet it appears to look like It's way younger than it should be and same goes with the two other chicks, It's as if they stopped growing in size for a whole month. We let them outside of the coop on occasions 2-3 times a week since we got some cats at home so we don't feel safe about letting them outside all the time until they're large enough, they have plenty of space to walk around and are usually active except the one chick who looks like It's not doing well. The chick is just a little bit smaller than the other two, it doesn't walk as much and it appears to be puffed up all the time. It eats but not as much as the other two but it drinks plenty of water. The way its standing also feels a bit off since it looks like It's putting Its head downwards and it sleeps way more than the other two. Other than that it also doesn't seem to be able to walk as it should the way other two do, it can walk straight only a few steps and it usually ends up circling to the right side no idea how to explain it.
I already read some of the stuff on this website on what I can do to help the chick. Only thing I could've done was to get some powder thingy that I apparently add to their water it contains all kinds of vitamins and my friend who raises chickens recommended it to me.
I don't think that getting vet to help is not optional since we've been kinda short on money this whole year and vet visits in Serbia are really overpriced, other than that they rarely get the job well done from my expirience.
Is there anything that I can do to help my three little friends? What worries me the most is that the other two might get sick or something since they're also almost as tiny as the one who isn't feeling well. 😢 they only started to grow in size right when I seperated them from the mother hen nine days ago
Could the hen be the cause of this? Could've she hurt them or didn't let them eat enough so that they ended up undeveloped?
I'll post some photos of the chicks here in the morning, I thank anyone in advance for taking your time to help me and I'm sorry if I've made some major mistakes when writing this I get too emotional when it comes to animals and I'm an extreme rookie at raising chickens!

Hello! Sorry about your little bean :(. What a lot of people suggest off the bat is to treat her for coccidiosis (Corid (amprolium) is a powder you can add to the drinking water and you can get it on Amazon but your local feed store should carry it). 3/4 tsp per gallon of water.

How long has the baby been looking/acting ill? Is she pooping? The fact that she is listing to the right makes me think there is something neurological going on (unfortunately, I have no experience here but you can search forums here for that). I’ve read that sometimes magnesium deficiencies can cause lethargy and riboflavin deficiencies can cause neurological problems.

You also should separate her from the others as well and make sure she is warm (if she is sick and puffed up, she’ll want to keep warm) and in a quiet place. Any chance you can bring her in and provide a heat source (not too close to her so she can move away if it’s too warm)?

You might also want to check her crop (right in front at the base of her neck). I had a chick that had sour/gassy crop when she was two weeks old (I suspected she had a blockage). She showed signs of lethargy and little interest in eating. Her crop felt like a balloon filled with air. If yours feels like that, she could have a blockage. For Junie, I withheld solid food and gave her NutriDrench and mashed up hard boiled egg yolk with water mixed in so I could syringe feed her. I massaged her crop to release the air and gave her olive oil (1 eyedropper full twice a day) to try to get the blockage moving). I also gave her a tiny bit of Monistat (paste) to fight any yeast growth. She is fully grown and healthy now.

But your baby might have something else going on, so be sure to check all symptoms before treating her. Good luck and hop someone else with more knowledge will chime in!

I'm almost 100% sure that the powder I've been putting in her water has the similar if not the same properties as the Corid, but the one I've been putting in her food is only available in my country I think, they should be pretty similar though.
I just googled coccidiosis and the photos of the chickens who have it look like my little chick :(.

She's been ill for about two weeks now, the day I separated her and two other chicks from the hen (which was 9 days ago) I have noticed that the hen pecked her once which is when I noticed that there is something wrong with her, one more chick looked like it had a scar on the neck but it was doing alright and the scar is completely gone now after 9 days. When it comes to her walking I'm pretty much sure that they were not eating enough and I don't know why. For a whole month they weren't growing in size at all which again makes me suspicious of the hen.

I was planning on separating her today this morning, Would the desk lamp with a basic light bulb be enough to keep her warm? I remember my grandma using light bulbs for chicks when I was little and the chicks would usually get under the bulb if they felt cold or go away from it if it was too hot. I don't really have anything else that I could use to keep her warm. The place where I can put her in is an older shed, there's an old cage which my grandma used to keep her young chicks in until they grew just enough to be moved to the coop. I could clean it and keep her there. Or would the better option be to keep her in my room in a large cardboard box? We've got cats walking in and out of the house as they please and one might sneak up into my room if I'm not careful enough, don't even wanna imagine that, It's also pretty louder in here than it is in the shed since I'm a rhythm game enthusiast so there's lots of loud stuff involving loud music going on every day, there's also TV and people chattering. Would she be alright though by herself? She is used to being with her two little siblings.

Her crop seems to be fine from what I can see, when they go to sleep her crop is full and in the morning It's empty. Also YEAH! I was wondering if I was right about feeding the chick hard boiled eggs, granny told me to try feeding her boiled egg and the chick loved it 😆. Is it okay to feed her egg whites as well or just yolk? I gave her both whites and yolk and she liked both, I can try syringe feeding my chick but she swallows stuff on her own, each evening half an hour before she and the other two go to sleep I make sure to check her crop, last night it was full but day before today it was empty so I hand fed her which I'm experienced with, we had pigeons and some other birds at home when I was little so it was quite easy to do, I basically put food near her beak she opens it and I just place it inside of her beak and swallows with no trouble at all, she seems to enjoy wet stuff more than solid food.

Thank you for all the info! I'll make sure to change her diet and keep her separated from the other two!

I’d say do whatever you can for her. The shed should be okay and my sister and I used to use a simple desk lamp for heat when we raised chicks, so I say go for it if it’s all you got ;) .

Maybe you should put a sibling in with her, especially if you can’t spend much time with her during the day. But go with the calmest one and make sure she isn’t getting picked on.

If she’s eating on her own that is great! And egg yolk and whites are fine (scrambled eggs are also good to feed to them).

Just keep treating her as long as the medication says. It’s so hard when they get sick because you feel so powerless even when you do everything you can. :( Just hang in there and hopefully she pulls through.

Oh! And it sounds like everyone may not have been getting the nutrition they needed, so MAYBE all she really needs is a few days of good, healthy food. Good luck!!!!
