Hey there!
Before you read, please be aware that I am very very new to raising chicks, having done it only once before. I apologize if I'm a complete newbie!
Anyways;
I just bought a few baby chicks a two or three hours ago; two Ameraucanas, wheaten and dark brown, and a silver laced Wyandotte.
The Ameraucanas are a week old, and the Wyandotte is two weeks!
I've noticed that once I put the chickies in their new brooder (a simple cardboard box, filled with pine shavings and a heat lamp.) the two Ameraucanas were acting a little lethargic. When I moved to pick them up or adjust the shavings, they didn't move at all, although the Wyandotte ran away from my hand. They don't move around or try to escape when I hold them, and if they perch on my hand they go into this very odd position of spreading out their wings and holding their neck out with their head low. Once I put them back into the brooder, they sort of stand their dumbly. They haven't made a sound either.
Are the Ameraucanas only acting like this because of the transport, or their age?
Thanks so much for reading! I appreciate all suggestions and answers.
