Hey everyone, I have a seven year old male Pekin who has not been acting normal for about three weeks. I noticed he was sleeping more and not being as active, but now he doesn't want to eat his normal food. I feed Mazuri waterfowl maintenance and they have never had a problem with it. He has been eating lettuce but that's all I've seen him eat for about a week. He lives with another male so I haven't been able to monitor who is eating the food. The other duck is fine.
I thought it was dehydration or maybe stress. We moved two weeks ago, he molted, and it's been very hot. I thought maybe it was a combination of those things. Now I am worried that he is not getting enough nutrition. I just ordered some nutridrench to put in his water, it should be here tomorrow, and I am going to poick up some electrolytes and meal worms and the store today. I think he will eat the meal worms and I know they have protein in them. I've been putting apple cider vinegar in the water for two weeks now. Usually that clears anything up when they are feeling under the weather, but it doesn't seem to have had any effect. That makes me worried that this is something more serious. Do anyone have any thoughts or further suggestions? Thank you.

I haven't wormed them in a few years. Last week his poop was nothing but water, and when he ate lettuce just dark green water. I haven't seen any of his poop since then :/ Does this sound like worms?

Do you have a local vet you use for other pets? you can take a sample of poo in and they can look at it under a microscope for parasites. If that isn't the problem at least you will have ruled that out.

It could be worms you need to look at his poop today and if you can post a pic. We have @casportpony who is awesome at poo inspecting.

Ok! I will try to get a picture today. I brought him inside for a few hours earlier and put him in the bath. He seemed really happy and relaxed. He did poop while he was in the tub and I saw green, mucousy pieces floating in the water-not unlike his normal poop. Of course I couldn't see much detail because it was in the water. I also noticed what looks like a mite on one of his eyes....I am going to dust both of them tonight. Could mites cause this type of reaction? I haven't even seen mites on them in a few years, and it never caused them to act this way.

Also I just put out some electrolytes for him and gave him meal worms. He ate the meal worms right up, which is a relief!

He had a poop! I do have a vet here that I've taken them to before, but I don't really have the money for it. I will call tomorrow and see if they can run a fecal sample without an appointment, but I think otherwise they'd start with a blood draw. Two years ago I took him because he was acting weird but I couldn't get an appointment for a week and by the time I took him he was back to normal. They drew blood and said he was just slightly dehydrated. I don't want to spend all that money if it's not going to do much.
