Hello! We got three sweet new ducklings in the mail yesterday morning—a Cayuga and two Welsh Harlequins.

Over the course of today, one of the Welsh Harlequins (Peanut) has become very lethargic. She’s still eating and drinking some, but not nearly as much as the other two. Often when they wake up to eat, she stays under the heating plate. She’s already noticeably smaller than the other Welsh Harlequin.

They’re eating duckling starter food and I mixed BVS poult start into their water, so I don’t think it’s a niacin deficiency.

Every other thread I’ve read in this forum on this subject looks like it ends with the duckling dying :(, so I’m prepared for that, but I’m hoping there’s still something I can do. Has anyone had a duckling live through these symptoms?

Aww, Your duckling's name is Peanut??? Just like my peanut who is a chicken! I would add electrolytes to water. Also try beak-feeding her scrambled egg.
Aw, nice! What kind of chicken is your Peanut?
She still eats on her own, she’s just not very enthusiastic about it. I’ll try scrambled egg.

peanut is a mille fleur belgain d'Uclle. for some reason birds like to snuggle with socks, so... i would stick a random sock in there with her, many people have said it makes them perk up. It's weird.

Update for anyone who searches this subject in the future: sadly, this little duckling died during the night. I do feel like we did everything we could. From what I've read, some ducklings just fail to thrive.
