Hello,
Today I noticed that one of my geese had separated herself off from the rest and was acting very lethargic, standing in one place staring at a single spot. I havnt seen her eat anything or poop but she has been drinking. She’s been picking up little bits of gravel but then she would drop it, I don’t have anything smaller to give her. She isn’t laying at the moment but is moulting.
I have given her some water with apple cider vinegar in to give her a little boost.
is there anything else I can do?
thanks x

How is your goose doing?
She’s still alive, not much improvement but I took her to the vets and they gave her pain relief and antibiotics. I have made some of her pellets into mush and I’m dropping it into her beak so that she has at least a little bit of food in her. I have noticed she pecks at the corn but doesn’t really pick it up, like it’s a little too much effort. After I gave her the food she seems to be farting and you can hear (what I assume is) her stomach grumbling?! The vet did suggest that I put her down but I wanted to give her another chance on the meds. Hopefully she improves a lil more overnight x

I’ve been and still am in your shoes. Non specific symptoms like this are the worst, there’s so many things it can be, from something easily treatable to the not so easy to fix but the hardest part is figuring out what it is and to do that usually takes running a lot of costly tests or some lucky guess work on the part of a vet expierienced with geese.

Making her feed into a soupy mash is a good idea, waterfowl are more likely to want it that way, try giving her nutri-drench and b vitamin complex, she could be deficient in something, if not it will at least help her fight whatever is going on.

What feed is she being given? Some feeds can be too low or high in protein or lack essential nutrients, that’s if it’s feed related, other possible causes could be toxins, parasites, viruses, bacteria. I wish I could be of more help honestly, it’s awful being in this situation and I hope the antibiotics help her pull out of this.
