my hen has started acting lethargic and has a poopy butt. She drinks fine and will only eat if put near food but not much.
She will stand about and close her eyes and then do the same in a different location.
Her comb is dull and shrivelled up :/

her crop feels like what she’s consumed which is water and a few bits of food(it’s small since it’s AM)
There’s no mites or lice
Last month she had bubbles in her eyes but I cleaned the bubbles away and they never reappeared
My hen is about 2 years old.
Shes not laid an egg since mooting season started.

ive given her applecider vinegar.

ive also tried to research before making this post and the similar cases haven’t seemed to have survived so my hopes aren’t so high but it’d be sad to see her go

She’s having a little pamper day because she deserves it

Sorry, you haven't received a reply - how is your hen doing?

Unfortunately, the symptoms she is exhibiting are "classic" for a sick bird but non-specific for the wide variety of issues we see with poultry. Hopefully, by providing some additional information we may be able to help narrow down what might be her problem.

In addition, to the physical finding you've mentioned, have you checked the rest of the bird's body for any abnormalities? Reproductive problems such as egg yolk peritonitis and salpingitis are common in hatchery hens and often presents itself with a swollen abdominal area - how does her abdomen feel? Fecal matter is oftentimes a good indicator of the hen's health, does the color, and consistency appear "off" - could you post a picture? First thing in the morning how does her crop feel?

If she is not eating, much, or at all, nutritional status must be maintained via tube feeding, or deterioration in her health will promisingly worsen. Soupy feed, tuna, or mashed scrambled eggs can be offered, but if complete anorexia is being noticed, the only way to totally maintain nutritional fulfillment will be via tube feeding.

Thank you for your reply! I will definitely use this reply in the future! Unfortunately poor rocksy didn’t make it.. she did end up losing a lot of weight but she was a light chicken anyways so it happened very quickly.

I brought her inside and syringed egg yolk down her beak as well as water mixed with applecider vinegar and made a bed out of a towel to keep her in an upright position so she could keep her weight off of her lungs. I tried to make her as comfortable as possible and set alarms over night to get up and continue to get fluids down her and clean her up and whilst I was cleaning her early hours of the morning she passed in my arms. I’m heartbroken but she’s no longer suffering and I should have phoned the vets regardless of being in self isolation they might have been able to help over the phone and I feel selfish :( RIP rocksy
